Ride Lightly on the Land
Everywhere that we ride our bikes is open to us by permission. In October, 15 miles of new mountain bike trails became available on weekends at Cheyenne Mountain State Park, just south of Colorado Springs on HWY 115. We are also welcome to ride in the newly opened City Park in Red Rock Canyon, just south of US 24 at 30th. We earned this access through the volunteer work of the Medicine Wheel group, and Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado. Please respect park rules so that we can continue to increase our trail access in the region.
The Air Force Academy has also welcomed cyclists back onto the military reservation for road riding. This is a long-awaited opportunity to ride the roads that were the course for the 1986 World Cycling Championships. So, dig out those Worlds’ stripes socks and gloves, and take a few laps. You will need to bring ID, stop at the gate, and park at the Stadium lot if you are driving in.
